Frequently Asked Questions

Do you produce all your own joinery?

Yes, we produce all joinery and cabinetry in our purpose-built factory located in Brisbane’s north-west. No matter the scope or scale of your project, or your location across Australia, we manufacture and assemble every item before carefully transferring it to your site using our own vehicles or our trusted network of logistics and transport partners.

Can you install joinery that I’ve imported or purchased elsewhere?

No, we don’t offer this service for our residential or commercial clients. We take great pride in our reputation for exceptionally accurate and detailed cabinetry, joinery and interior finishings. Before importing or purchasing elsewhere, have a chat to our team about how we can manufacture your joinery and cabinetry, before installing the items for you. This results in the quality outcomes our clients rely on.

Can you fix my existing kitchen cupboards?

Generally, no. We are a full-service interior fitout company, so our services are predominantly geared to meet the needs of clients who are undertaking commercial or residential interior fitout or refurbishment projects.

Do you have comprehensive insurance?

Yes, we take our commitment to trust, reliability and quality seriously. Platinum Joinery Interiors maintains current insurance policies for public and products liability and workers’ compensation. We also hold a range of appropriate licences under QBCC so you can rest easy knowing that in the unlikely event of an incident, you won’t be exposed to the possible financial or liability risks associated with using an unlicensed contractor.

Are quotes free?

Yes, we don’t charge a fee to conduct the initial assessment of your project and develop a detailed quote. These early steps are the foundation of our business relationship with you and we firmly believe in fostering no-strings-attached trust from the outset.

Why is your quote different to other companies?

This can be a million-dollar question – quite literally! Firstly, ensure you’ve given each company the same and most recent information available, particularly information from any designers. Following this, it’s critical that you carefully assess each quote or proposal to determine exactly what has been included and excluded. It’s important to consider that an ambiguous design may lead to different interpretations by different companies, skewing the project scope.

Finally, avoid basing your decision on the cheapest or most expensive price. Get to know the companies you’ve asked for a quote, including their reputation, their networks, their compliance history and their previous projects.

If you’re ever unsure, reach out to our team. We’re more than happy to help you compare or break things down so you can understand what you’re committing to.

Can you give me a square metre price?

No, we price each project based on its particular specifications, finishes, location, site requirements and other variables. Every single project is unique and we treat them as such. By providing you with tailored, competitive and fair pricing, it’s highly unlikely that our team will be submitting extensive variation requests. This alignment of expectations contributes to your seamless fitout experience with us.

How much does a commercial fitout cost?

Prices vary significantly for commercial fitouts. Project cost depends on the scope, scale and site location, among a whole raft of other key considerations. Every single project is unique and we treat them as such by providing you with tailored, competitive and fair pricing.

It’s important to discuss any critical budget requirements with your designer or interior fitout company from the outset so they can help you formulate a realistic plan and manage expectations.

Why is custom-made joinery more expensive than buying ‘off the shelf’ cabinetry?

Manufacturers producing ‘off the shelf’ cabinetry have embedded economies of scale due to their bulk production of identical items. By contrast, when you engage a company to build cabinetry, joinery and other shopfitting components that are unique to your project, they are drafting, sourcing materials, manufacturing and assembling your items from scratch. The price difference typically reflects the superior craftsmanship of custom-made items.

What’s a normal kitchen renovation budget?

The cost of kitchen renovations can vary significantly depending on the size of the space, the quality of the materials used, whether the kitchen layout is being altered or maintained, and many other important factors. Every single project is unique and we treat them as such by providing you with tailored, competitive and fair pricing.

In reality, there’s no way to truly define a normal kitchen renovation budget. It’s important to discuss any critical budget requirements with your designer or kitchen renovation company from the outset so they can help you formulate a realistic plan and manage expectations.

What questions should I ask before signing a contract?

There are three questions every person should ask their builder or fitout specialist before signing a contract.

  1. What are my inclusions and exclusions?
This will help avoid unexpected and costly variations, extended timeframes and poor quality finishes.
  2. What is the duration of the defects period and what is covered under warranty?
A short defects period may catch you off-guard, while a limited warranty may restrict your options for recourse in the case of faulty products or workmanship.
  3. What occurs in the event of a dispute over payments or workmanship?
Having a clearly defined dispute management process can be incredibly valuable when navigating a difficult situation.

How long will it take to do my fitout?

Generally, a complete commercial fitout can take anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks to plan, manufacture and install. This doesn’t include the design stage and doesn’t allow for council application processing, if required.

There are always exceptions to the rule, so chat with our team to get an idea around what sort of timeframe you can expect for your specific project.

How long will it take to do my residential renovation?

Residential renovation timeframes depend on a number of key variables, however, they typically take anywhere from 1 day to 3 weeks. This doesn’t include the design stage and doesn’t allow for council application processing, if required.

There are always exceptions to the rule, so chat with our team to get an idea around what sort of timeframe you can expect for your residential renovation.

Do I need to get permission from my landlord before I do a commercial fitout?

This depends on the contents of your lease agreement and the extent of the proposed works. For example, adding freestanding, custom-designed and made desks to an office space may not trigger landlord approval. However, adding internal walls and partitions, additional toilets or changing wall finishes are a few changes that may require the landlord’s consent.

Our team has worked with countless tenants to determine their lease obligations, acting as a liaison between the tenant and landlord to obtain appropriate approvals where necessary.

Should I use a designer and/or an architect?

This depends on your project and your key objectives.

We recommend using a designer or an architect for commercial fitouts, particularly commercial projects that are heavily reliant on interior design or industry compliance.

For residential projects, a designer or an architect is worth the investment if you’re short on ideas or are making major changes to your space. If you’re opting for something a little more simple, our team has the capability to create basic designs for your joinery or project.

Ask us about our network of trusted and reputable designers and architects. Our fitout relies on their exceptional designs, so we only recommend those who meet our platinum expectations.

Will you work with my builder for my project?

Yes, we partner with many builders across Australia to provide cabinetry and joinery, or to provide more complete fitout or installation services. For example, if you are building a new home and you’re seeking custom cabinetry, we can work with your builder to achieve your vision and get the exact finishes you desire. The same applies for commercial projects.
